Entertaiment

Entertaiment is an activity undertaken for the enjoyment or amusement of others. It includes games and sports, plays, tv and film, music and dance, and other cultural activities. It can be at a small scale, for example an individual watching a movie in his/her home, or a meal adapted to two people; or it may be large-scale and involve performances for thousands of people. It is often associated with amusement, but can also serve other purposes such as social interaction, education, and edification.

From late Middle English entretenement, from Old French entretenir (“support, maintenance”), from entre- “among” (see inter) + tenir “to hold, stick together, support”; see entertain. Also, a suffix of Latin origin forming nouns derived from verb stems; for example amazement, betterment, merriment.
